Chess Game History:
Chess is a recreational and competitive board game played between two players. The current form of the game emerged in Southern Europe during the second half of the 15th century after eveolving from a similar much older game of Indian origin. Today chess is one of the world's most popular games, played by millions of people worldwide at home, in clubs, online, by correspondence, and in tournaments.
The game is played on a square chequred chessboard with 64 squares arranged in an eight-by-eight grid. At the start, each player(one controlling the white pieces, the other controlling the black pieces) controls sixteen pieces: one king, one queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns. The object of the game is to checkmate the opponent's king, whereby the king is under immediate attack (in check) and there is no way to remove it from attack on the next move.
Your guide to Chess sets:
For Children a basic wooden chess set is great for helping them learn. If you're going on a trip a small magnetic chess set can keep them occupied, if they have someone to play with, and also can keep them from losing the pieces. As they get older and can better take care of things, a nice marbles chess set should last them until their adult years. For school functions a Vinyl chess board is good. It is inexpensive, and can take the inevitable abuse it will go through. Vinyl chess boards are recommended for picnics and other outdoor functions.
Half of what makes any great chess set, the chess board is more than simply a playing surface. The chess board can be a work of art which becomes the backdrop to years of entertainment. We carry a great selection of chess boards in several different materials including wood, marble, leather and more. Many of our chess boards are handmade by Italian artisans for the ultimate in style and quality.
